In the heart of the Berkshires, perched on top of the most prominent street in the greatest small town in America, is the Isha Nelson Gallery. Having recently moved to the top of Railroad Street, the gallery is playing with the preconceived and confined box of ideas surrounding Fine Art. Between glass, wood marquetry and other unique forms of expression, Isha Nelson Gallery is pushing the conventional mediums to open the Berkshires to another world of Fine Art. Founded by Isha Nelson, a native to the Berkshires, the gallery has grown to include several local artists working in an array of genres. “I have always been inspired by the eclectic and the unusual. Having been fortunate enough to travel, I have seen many forms of expression. Upon coming home to the Berkshires, I realized there was a lack of space for those artists working in unique mediums. There was no place for us to be ourselves and display our art. I, myself, work in glass, a fabulous form not often displayed in this area. I wanted to open a space to expand the local appreciation and support for other great unconventional artists.” Isha, herself, grew up in the Ashram that is now Kripalu. After traveling the world and living abroad she has returned to her native Berkshires to share with the community her love of art and local talent. Fostering a space that supports creativity and pushes the conventional notion of what Fine Art is, the Isha Nelson Gallery is a must see upon a visit to the Berkshires.
