OCT. 28 AND WILL BE HELD AT: El Mercado at Nueva Esperanza 401 Main St, Holyoke, MA 01040 Due to the ongoing global health crisis and the high risk of the COVID-19 Delta variant, the Academy of Music will now require all attendees to provide proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 or a negative PCR test taken within the past 72 hours, a valid ID, and wear a mask while not eating and drinking. Children under the age of 12 must wear a mask at all times. For further information, visit www.aomtheatre.com/health-and-safety Come join us… New spaces, new places, come out to El Mercado for a night of touching, surprising, captivating stories told in English and Spanish in El Corazon de Holyoke. Listen as neighbors and friends speak about "First times" in five minutes. The audience chooses the winner and a storytelling star is born! The winners of each slam go on to compete in the The Best of Valley Voices at the Academy of Music in January. Storytellers will compete and be selected based on the strength of their first line of a story they submit via voicemail to a selected phone number, and will be invited to share their story live at one of Valley Voices four chosen locations. The selected storytellers are then encouraged to attend a free storytelling workshop, which will help to cultivate their personal stories into performances of about 5 minutes in length. Finalists will then perform their stories, and the audience will select 3 finalists out of 10 to then perform at the Academy of Music for the final round. All finalists will then get to perform their stories to a full audience at the Academy of Music Northampton to a crowd of 800 people who will then select the final winner.
