SCDT is thrilled to be back live, and offer IN PERSON performances at our NEW home in the Workroom Theater at 33 Hawley Street. This Holiday season you are in for a TREAT with Northampton’s ONLY teen dance company Hatchery, returning for its EIGHTH season of dynamic contemporary dance and inspiring performance art! Hatchery shares new work with Northampton audiences that includes modern, hip hop, improvisation, video installations, music and spoken words created by nationally renowned guest artists and talented teens from the pioneer valley! Join us for our holiday show, TIMELESS, presenting “post covid” world premieres by company members, and professional guests LAUREN HORN (Hartford) and VANESSA ANSPAUGH (NYC, Northampton ) as well as work by Hatchery directors Jen Polins and Kate Martel.

Hatchery is a movement-based performance company for young artists ages 13-18. Unique in the Pioneer Valley, Hatchery offers creative teens who love to dance, a supportive environment where enthusiasm and curiosity are just as important as technique! SCDT founded Hatchery in 2015 to provide intermediate and advanced level movement-based performing artists with opportunity for performance without competition.Hatchery is currently made up of 16 teens from diverse communities including PVPA, Amherst High School, Northampton High School, Academy of Charlemont and Lighthouse. Hatchery offers training in contemporary dance forms such as Modern, Improvisation, Contemporary Ballet, African Diaspora forms, Composition and Multimedia/Dance Production with opportunities to work with professional choreographers each season. Hatchery performs biannually, has shared work at Jacob’s Pillow, and partners with several youth companies including One Earth Dance/Drum Co (Amherst, MA), First Generation (Holyoke, MA), and Portland Youth Dance(Portland, ME).
